Moto X said to get a price drop to $100 in Q4 this year

Image
Motorola's latest and greatest Moto X has generally been lauded by everyone for its unique customizable colors and performance but the $200 price tag on contract has often raised questions, especially considering you get much more powerful smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One for the same price. It seems Motorola is aware of this and is planning a price drop in the near future. evleaks has revealed that the Moto X will be getting a price drop in Q4 this year and will drop down to $100 on a contract. Moreover, the wooden panels that Motorola showed off when the device was announced (but are not yet available) will be available around the same time for a $50 premium. You can see the four panel options that will be available through Moto Maker later this year.

Sony is working a Chromecast-like TV dongle, FCC confirms

Image
FCC documents, which saw their confidentiality request expire on August 29, reveal Sony is working on a Chromecast-like USB device and bring some of its specs. The dongle is dubbed Sony NSZ-GU1 Internet Player and features a Marvell DE3108 chipset, 1GB or RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The purported player has lots of connectivity options – Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, HDMI-in and MHL TV-out ports, plus an IR blaster. Naturally, the dongle is powered by the TV’s USB port so it doesn’t require an external power supply. Sony NSZ-GU1 Internet Player Since the confidentiality request expired just before the IFA kicks off, there’s a chance the device will go official at the IFA expo days. Thanks, gmfady, for the tip!

Galaxy Note III to hit UK on Sept 16, Xperia Z1 on Sept 24

Image
Samsung is doing great job so far keeping the Galaxy Note III phablet under wraps and we are yet to see leaked pictures of the actual device. However we spotted renders , specs, panels, different model rumors, and, most recently a launch date. Today's piece of info comes for Three UK internal document, which contains various devices release dates including the Samsung Galaxy Note III and Sony Xperia Z1 . According to this leaked doc Three UK will be launching the Samsung Galaxy Note III on September 16, while the Xperia Z1 flagship will hit the UK shelves on September 24. If the document is indeed authentic, we guess the other UK carriers and retailers will be getting the two devices around the same time, as well as the rest of the world's major markets. Both devices will be unveiled on September 4 in Berlin and we'll be there to cover the events live for you.

Sony Xperia Z1 teaser video goes live, mockup confirms name

Image
The first teaser video of Sony Xperia Z1 also known as Honami has just been published by the Japanese maker. Unfortunately the video is a combination of all teaser pictures we've seen so far and gives us no new details Sony has already showed us the power key , the water-proof panels , the G-lens at the back, as well the slim profile which also revealed the announcement date - September 4. Yes, it's the same day Samsung will premiere the Galaxy Note III. Sony Xperia Z1 has already leaked in various pictures and it looks much like its Xperia Z sibling. The Z1 will supposedly feature a 5" 1080p display and run on a Snapdragon 800 chipset. At the back it will boast a 20.7MP camera 1/2.3" sensor capable of 4K video recording , and a 3000 mAh battery. Meanwhile, an Xperia Z1 mockup showed its face and was sized up against an Xperia Z and Xpetia Z Ultra mockups. Not only did it help us get a better idea of the size of the smartphone, the dummy also let us learn th

Spigen posts a Samsung Galaxy Note III render on its website

Image
A Samsung Galaxy Note III teaser with a rendered image of the device has been posted on Spigen's website. Spigen, in case you haven't heard the name, is a company that manufactures cases for a huge variety of smartphones. So, out of the blue Spigen has published a teaser image of the upcoming Galaxy Note III phablet that is going to be unveiled on September 4. The render definitely looks plausible and while there's no way to know if it's the real deal, it probably bears quite a lot of resemblance to the final product. The Galaxy Note III is rumored to pack a 5.7" 1080p Super AMOLED display and run on Snapdragon 800 or Exynos 5420 chipset depending on your region. It will offer 3GB of RAM, a 13MP sharpshooter, expandable 16/32/64GB storage and LTE connectivity. A huge 3200 mAh battery will power the monster and, naturally, you can expect an integrated S-Pen. The third generation Samsung Galaxy Note will go official next month, on September 4 in Berlin. We will

HTC Zara to be unveiled as HTC Desire 601

Image
HTC Zara is actually HTC Desire 601, according to the usually very reliable evleaks . An official render of the phone has already leaked once along with a bunch of specs. HTC Zara a.k.a. Desire 601 will supposedly pack a 4.5" qHD display and will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8930 chipset with two 1.2GHz Krait cores, 1GB of RAM and an Adreno 305 GPU. The rumored specs sheet continues with an 8MP camera, 8GB expandable storage and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Sense 5.5 UI on top of it. HTC Zara Recently we saw another unannounced HTC model leaking, which according to the latest rumors is codenamed HTC Zara mini. It will probably have the same internals as Zara/Desire 601, but downgrade the display to a 4.0" WVGA unit and the rear camera to 5MP resolution. HTC Zara mini An educated guess would be that both HTC Zaras are going to be unveiled in September alongside the HTC One Max

Unknown HTC leaks, 4-inch WVGA display and slim profile in tow

Image
An unknown HTC smartphone has leaked today via two photos. The device looks nothing we've seen so far from HTC and is very slim. As the rumor has it the phone will pack a 4" or so WVGA display, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, a 5MP rear and a 1.3MP front camera. There is no word on the processor, connectivity or Android version. The final piece if info in this rumor is the smartphone's price - $210. Since the leak source is Chinese, we guess China will be the first market to get it and the phone will probably support dual-SIM. Another China-bound Desire perhaps?

HTC Zara with 4.5" display and Sense 5.5 leaks

Image
An alleged press photo of the HTC Zara has leaked courtesy of evleaks , complete with a set of specifications that reveal the phone's mid-range nature. According to the leak, the HTC Zara will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8930 chipset with two Krait CPU cores running at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM and an Adreno 305 GPU. Internal memory is just 8GB, but is expandable via the onboard microSD card slot. At the back, there's an 8MP camera with LED flash. While its video recording capabilities aren't mentioned, it should support 1080p video recording. Below the battery cover sits a 2100mAh battery. It should be enough powering the 4.5" display (probably of the Super LCD2 variety) of qHD resolution. HTC Zara is the second phone we hear of that's going to launch with the updated Sense 5.5 user interface running on top of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The HTC One Max is going to debut with the company's updated UI. Judging from the leaked photo, the HTC Zara is fea

HTC One Max leaks again, shows its fingerprint scanner

Image
The Taiwanese site ePrice has got hold of a live image of the HTC One Max posing for a family photo HTC One Mini and HTC One. The said shot reveals an HTC One Max feature that we haven't heard of so far - a fingerprint scanner. Last week, evleaks outed an allegedly official render of the HTC One Max, which doesn't have a fingerprint reader on its back. This makes us think that the cool feature might just be available for select regions. Judging from the photo, the HTC One Max appears to have 3 dock connectors, which suggest that it will be getting such an accessory at launch. The HTC One Max is rumored to come with a 5.9" 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 chipset and 64GB of built-in memory. Robert Downey Jr. is already working hard to promote a mysterious device in HTC’s new ad campaign 'Here’s To Change' that's most probably the One Max itself. HTC is expected to lift the curtains of the One Max in September. According to the latest rumors, we should ex

HTC One Max leaks again, imposing physique confirmed

Image
HTC One Max entered Rumorland in mid-July, but it was just last weekend when we got to see its face for the first time. The phablet is supposed to go official in September with a 5.9" 1080p display and Snapdragon 800 chipset. Today, a new photo has arrived, showing the HTC One Max siting underneath the Chinese Motorola XT882 that sports "just" a 4" display. As you can see the Moto smartphone is easily dwarfed by the HTC phablet, although it comes nowhere near to matching its slender profile. What's more interesting though is the switch that is now visible on the left side of the HTC One Max. It's unclear what it's purpose will be, but there are some speculation that it will be used to release the battery cover. HTC has already started building up the hype for its next flagship. The company has published a 6s video teaser allegedly featuring HTC's new star Robert Downey Jr. Previously leaked HTC One Max features September is just a few wee

HTC may have just hired Robert Downey Jr. to promote its phones

Image
HTC has broken its bad streak with the HTC One and are looking to continue improving by stepping up marketing. How? By hiring Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., to promote HTC’s phones. Bloomberg reports that RDJ won’t be playing any of his famous characters, he will be himself, which is just as awesome (though admittedly Iron Man and the metal-clad HTC One would have gone well together). He will be promoting smartphones from HTC for two years to the tune of $12 million. It’s a bold move from HTC, which reportedly has only a tenth of the marketing budget that chief rival Samsung has to work with. Even though HTC and Robert Downey Jr.’s agency have yet to confirm the deal, we can’t wait for the first ads to hit.

HTC sees big revenue increase in May, almost back to 2012 levels

Image
The first sign that HTC has reversed its downward spiral was the unconfirmed info that the HTC One had sold 5 million units not long after its end-of-March launch. Now we get something more official from HTC's monthly financial info, which shows a 48% increase in revenue for May compared to April. The total revenue for May were $969.6 million, just 3.35% down compared to the same month last year. That's quite the reversal, considering HTC was seeing nearly 50% year on year decrease in revenue in the previous months. The revenue for the January-May period is $3.06 billion, about $1.4 billion from Q1 and $1.6 billion for April and May. HTC should be able to hit its Q2 projection of $2.3 billion in revenue and even surpass it if the increase in sales holds up in June

HTC exec claims HTC One already reached 5 million sales

Image
The HTC One got a troubled start due to supply shortages of crucial components – the aluminum unibody and the UltraPixel camera sensor – but an anonymous HTC exec speaking to the Wall Street Journal claims the phone has been doing pretty well despite that. The One launched at the end of March in several countries and expanded its availability late last month. The exec claims there have been 5 million HTC Ones sold since launch and that there are still more orders than HTC can't fulfill, but the ramp up in production should be felt next month. So, the HTC One has been on the market slightly longer than its chief rival, the Samsung Galaxy S4, which recently hit the 10 million sales mark. That's not bad at all and might signal a turnaround for the troubled company. Of course, we won't have a confirmation of the 5 million number until HTC releases an official statement (they usually do every month).

HTC One Max shows its face for the first time, 5.9" display in tow

Image
We heard about the existence of a bigger 6-inch version of the HTC One flagship called HTC One Max about three weeks ago. It is supposed to run on the Snapdragon 800 chipset and hit the shelves this September - about the same as the Galaxy Note III. It seems the HTC One Max is a real deal after all and today we get to see its face for the first time. HTC One Max As you can see the HTC One Max looks just like the other two members of the One family - the original One and the HTC One mini - it has dual speakers at the front, aluminum unibody and a polycarbonate strip that runs along the sides of the phone. Rumor has it the HTC One Max will feature a 5.9" 1080p display and a Snapdragon 800 chipset with a quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400 processor, Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM. The rest of the rumored specs include 4MP UltraPixel camera with OIS, 16GB expandable storage, a 3300mAh battery and a 9.4mm profile. The HTC One Max should launch running on Android 4.3 JB skinned wit

HTC said to be working on 6-inch One Max

Image
It looks like HTC is finally ready to jump on the phablet bandwagon. According to the sources at Mobile Geeks , HTC is working on a One Max with a 6-inch, 1080p display. Other specs include a stonking 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32/64GB of storage space and a spacious 3,200mAh battery. It's not clear whether HTC will opt for some sort of pen input such as the S Pen on Samsung's Galaxy Note series. The One Max is said to release some time in September, which is around the same time Samsung would be releasing the Galaxy Note III. Although we are not fond of overly large smartphones here, it's hard not to get fascinated by the insane specifications on these devices.
