HTC Nexus 9 specs leak alongside pricing info and first image Rumors about HTC working with Google on a Nexus tablet have been abundant this year. We've heard quite a few times that an 8-inch or 8.9-inch device would be coming, and that it would be manufactured by HTC, and not Asus - the company responsible for both Nexus 7 iterations. Now though almost all the details about the upcoming HTC tablet have been leaked. It may be called Nexus 9 when it launches, and its codename is  Volantis  (or Flounder). It's got an 8.9-inch touchscreen indeed. However, it comes with a very odd resolution: 2048x1440. That would be a big departure from previous Nexus tablets, which all had 16:10 aspect ratios. The new Nexus is closer to the iPad's proportions, though it's not 4:3 like  Apple's tablets  either. And that's strange, since the source of this leak claims that  the Nexus  9 will have 4:3 aspect ratio. So something's off here...

5.5-inch iPhone 6 display component images leak It is widely believed that  Apple  will be launching two versions of the iPhone 6 later this year. One of the models is said to have a 4.7-inch display, and which we have seen leak several times in the past, and the other a rather enormous (especially for Apple) 5.5-inch display, which haven't heard much about. That is, until now. The images above are from  9to5Mac  and show a component from the iPhone 6 display. A ruler is conveniently placed next to it and we can clearly see it measures 14cm diagonally, which is approximately 5.5-inch. Other than that, we don't have much else on the phone right now. The new iPhone 6 is said to have an all aluminum body. The two models, other than their sizes, will have identical design. The exact specifications are still a mystery but it's rather amusing to see Apple resort  to such large display sizes, after years of sticking to 3.5 and 4-inch displays for...

It's been barely a month since Android 4.4.3 started rolling out for  Nexus devices  and  Google  has already started rolling out the 4.4.4 update. But while this may not be as big an update as its predecessor (which itself wasn't especially big) it does take care of a major security issue. According to the change log posted by Sprint, this update just brings a security fix. According to Android Police , it contains a patch for an OpenSSL bug, which would have allowed a man-in-the-middle attack. This is similar to the Heartbleed bug that was addressed in 4.4.3 update. The OTA update is just rolling out for the  Nexus 5  for now but Google has provided factory images on its website for the Nexus 4,  5 ,  7  and  10 . If you used  Towelroot  to root your device then it will remain unaffected.

BlackBerry posts smaller than expected loss in fiscal Q1 For the fiscal quarter ending in May of this year, the beleaguered Canadian smartphone manufacturer has reported a loss of $0.11 per share, which is up from the consensus estimate of $0.25 per share. Although the company's $966 million in first quarter revenue missed estimates of $976 million, it was still able to ship some 1.6 million smartphones - an increase of 300,000 over the previous quarter. BlackBerry started off the year hopeful by unveiling their new Z3 flagship, as well as bringing back their bread-and-butter QWERTY experience with the Q20. While neither device can be considered a top seller, it appears that there was a fair amount of interest in the devices, resulting in a slightly more optimistic outlook from  BlackBerry's camp . Apple will bring manual camera controls to  iOS 8 . The move will represent a radical departure from the company’s current practice to keep all camera settings automated, save for basic settings such as flash and HDR mode. The recently annoucned iOS 8 will open most manual camera controls. They include ISO, shutter speed, focus mode, white balance, as well as  exposure bias . It must be noted that the abovementioned advanced settings will not be available in the iOS 8  native camera app . Instead,  Apple  has opted to have the controls available to developers via AVCaptureDevice  APIs. All the above means that we can reasonably expect third party photography apps a la Nokia Camerato arrive this fall with the latest iOS build. The native camera app on iOS 8 will only gain  exposure bias controls .

Analyst: Apple to sell record 39m iPhones this quarter According to data from Morgan Stanley's AlphaWise Smartphone Tracker, which was sent in a note to investors,  Apple  is en route to score a record 39 million iPhones sold in the quarter ending this month. To put that in perspective Apple was able to dish out 31.2 million iPhones in the same quarter a year ago, which was up from the 26 million of Q2 in 2012. AlphaWise  has been almost right on the money with Apple sales and more often than not is closer than the Wall Street consensus estimates which suggested Apple will sell 35 million iPhone units this quarter. The increase in customer demand could translate into a $2.8 billion gain for Apple just for Q2 - an 8% bump over earlier predictions. Analysts think that international expansion and carrier promotions are key factors in the increase of demand as well as the release of the  8GB iPhone 5c , which was also involved in a trade-in program in the US...

Split-screen multitasking code found in iOS 8 Game and app developer Steve Troughton-Smith reports that he has discovered code in the updated Springboard on iOS 8 that will allow  Apple iPad tablets  to run two apps side by side. The apps can split the screen 50/50 or 25/75. The split-screen multitasking will only work in landscape mode. Once you have two apps running together they will show up as a single screen in the app switcher. The code isn't ready yet as running it causes one side of the screen to be blank and the app crashes. This feature is reportedly aimed at the 9.7"  iPad Air  and a potential larger iPad, but not the iPad mini or the iPhone.

Huawei schedules a press event for June 24, to unveil Honor 6 Huawei announced its octa-core Kirin 920 chipset four days ago. It is the company's latest top-notch piece of technology and will naturally premiere on the next Huawei flagship. We are yet to see which that device is, but just a day before the chipset went official we saw two new Huawei devices leak - the Kirin 920-based codenamed Mulan device and a new Honor smartphone. Now an official invitation suggests that  the Kirin  920 will premiere on Huawei Honor 6. Huawei has scheduled a press even on June 24 in Beijing. If we are to trust the teaser, Huawei will be skipping Honor 4 and 5 and jump straight on Honor 6, whatever the reason. There are no additional details though, we'll know more on June 24. Google tweet shows an unknown new phone The Android Twitter account  posted an image to brag about how awesome Google Now is, but there's something odd about the phone in the image. It's not a Nexus 5, not even one of the Moto phones, and it lacks any branding. Since this is the Internet, speculation instantly started flying around that this is the Nexus 6 or the Moto X+1. The Motorola Moto X+1 recently leaked via a 1080p screenshot, but as  Motorola  is departing Google for Lenovo, cross promotion from the search giant is less likely. This could also be Android Silver – the replacement of the Nexus line, the first device of which will be manufactured by LG. If you'll recall, LG made the last two  Nexus phones  so it's a good pick. The final (and very likely) option is that this is an image of a generic "phone" as the tweet wants to promote Google's search prowess, available on any smartphone.

Apple iPhone 6 rear panel leaks out of China The  iPhone 6  has been popping up in the rumor mill quite a bit recently. Quite curiously the China-based Apple manufacturer Foxconn revealed that it will be manufacturing both 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models of  the upcoming Apple flagship , just hours before their recent WWDC conference. Now, another leak out of China shows off the rear panel of the 4.7" model yet again, this time with a cut-out apple logo.       Apple  has traditionally shied away using a cutout logo on its smartphones, relying on one melded into the surface of the device instead. Now it's hypothesized that the iPad-esque cutout section could even be illuminated, and possibly used for notification alerts as well. This last bit is unlikely, however, as on the latest iPad mini the cutout logo does not illuminate, and is instead used to overcome the shielding effect the metal casing had on the internal antenna. Xiaomi Mi3 gets a price cut, 16GB now costs $270 The  Xiaomi Mi3  was  launched back in September  and it has always been known for offering plenty of bang for your buck. To maintain that reputation today the company has announced new prices, which considerably cheaper than before. Xiaomi has slashed the price of The 16GB Mi3 from $327 to $270, while the 64GB model retails for $320 shortly after the company announced that it intends to bring the Mi3 outside of China. By the end of 2014, you should be able to buy the phone in India, Brazil, and  Russia  as well as Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam. The device is available with two different chipsets - you can either get a4 with four Cortex-A15 cores or a Snapdragon 800 with four Krait 400 cores at 2.2 GHz each. OnePlus One is official, runs custom CyanogenMod 11S Finally after months of teasing and releasing details one bit at a time, OnePlus announces the One - its  first Android smartphone . In terms of specifications, there's little surprise. The  OnePlus One  features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (8974AC) platform with a quad-core 2.5GHz Krait 400 CPU, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM. The display is a 5.5" full HD JDI-made, resulting in a pixel density of 401ppi. The OnePlus  One runs CyanogenMod 11S based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The company has worked closely with the ROM team to release a special minimal and flat UI. There are also a bunch of custom themes and icons specially made for the device. OnePlus  put a great deal of effort into the design of the One and its hows. Xiaomi unleashes the Mi-3, you pick Tegra 4 or Snapdragon 800 Xiaomi  has revealed its MiPhone 3 (or just Mi-3) at a product event in  Beijing today , just aspreviously expected. As recent rumors suggested, the device is powered by either a Tegra 4 with four Cortex-A15 cores (for China Mobile) or a Snapdragon 800 with four Krait 400 cores at 2.2 GHz each (for China Unicom). The Xiaomi Mi-3 will cost RMB1999 ($327) for the 16 gig model and RMB2499 ($408) for the 64 GB. The device will go on sale in China in October, after which it will start selling across Hong Kong and Taiwan. There have been some murmurs that Samsung, in an effort to grab some of HTC's premium phone market share (and undoubtedly the upcoming iPhone 6's), release a high-end version of their Galaxy S5 phone, called the S5 Prime. The upgraded version of the Korean manufacturer's latest flagship is supposed to have an aluminum encasing, 2K screen, and 3GB RAM. Now Samsung has been mum on their plans with the Samsung Galaxy S5 prime, and haven't even acknowledged that they're working on the device, but it seems to be a pretty poorly kept secret with a series of leaks hinting at the phone's development. The latest development is an Indian shipping manifest that shows a device with a code number SM-G906S, which is supposed to be a regional version of the Galaxy S5 Prime.
